The Fall-Slippy Floor (2009.)

A one-off single to tie in with the current tour. A song of many parts, starting with a gorgeous bass line as MES intones, 'We're gonna get married/On the floor of behest.' Main part is a repetitive but addictive guitar riff along with seemingly random observations on the slippy floor in view of the Taj Mahal. All you get is a sloppy Fall? The typically lo-fi tape recordings at the end include what sounds like a tasty slide guitar based song snippet and another of those 'rhythms tapped out on the kitchen table with a spoon' jobs. 'So, apart from mixing that, there's not really much more to do with it, is there?'

a mixtape made by Transformation Surprise (Mary Pearson from High Places)
This is a fresh feature on the blog where, instead of just the regular monthly NC mixtapes, you can hear mixes that some of our favorite artists put together for us. This time it's Transformation Surprise, the solo project of Mary Pearson from High Places. Regarding the theme of the mixtape she says it's "music that inspires my solo music by process and intent. This is the kind of stuff I listen to when my inspiration well is running a little dry." 01. Tom Waits - Hoist That Rag 02. Bow Ribbons - Let Me Down Easy 03. Underworld - Something Like A Mama 04. Cat Power - I Don't Blame You 05. Portishead - Hunter 06. Buffy Sainte-Marie - He's A Keeper Of The Fire 07. The Dead Weather - I Cut Like A Buffalo 08. Marnie Stern - Patterns Of A Diamond Ceiling 09. Broadcast - Tears In The Typing Pool 10.
-
@Sir:
-
Ahora me he perdido.
-
-

Pues si alguien le tiene curiosidad…

Un poquito de Indie Folk desde Tel AvivThe Making of Ground Zero
Yael met Jonathan Levy the musical producer of ‘Ground Zero’ and the band’s bass player, at Zion Square – where Jerusalem youngsters hang out – when they were both 15 years old. They have been making music together ever since and dreaming about this collaborative album. Eleven years later, living in Tel Aviv and persuing their professional musical careers, they finally fulfilled their dream. "Ground Zero" is the result of six years of a musical journey and hard work. For this project, Yael was also joined by Shaul Eshet, keyboards, a fellow class mate at their Jerusalem high school, Dani Dromi, guitar, also from Jerusalem, and Nir Mantzur, drums. In the five years prior to the production of "Ground Zero", Yael has been performing solo and with the band all over Israel while recording and creating this, her first solo debut album.Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/deckelbaum

Scul Hazzards - Landlord 12'' [Rejuvenation, 2009]

@qzisomfa:
‘Landlord’ is 11 songs long and is a ferocious beast of a recording. Over the course of 39 minutes you are assault by jack-hammer guitars, shuddering bass and colossal drums. This is the sound of a band intent on making as tight a noise as they can. This is easily better than their début release ‘Let Them Sink’. It’s like they discovered a new gear. A gear that is set to grind and hammer at your senses until you are sucked into the relentless rhythms that Scul Hazzards offer up. Sure it might sound like a long lost Big Black record. I see this as a good thing.

The Wave Pictures - Play Some Pool 2009
http://www.filestube.com/500a7c4bb0df734203e9/go.html
Versions by Darren Hayman and the Wave Pictures and you’ll find a free CD-R with a further 10 covers by the latter. Clearly, there’s a mighty itch that David Tattersall and co need to scratch, and the range of songs covered suggests they’re not just recent fans (“all Boss and no dross”, as they’d say if this was released on K-Tel). The good thing is that the Wave Pictures don’t try to mimic Springsteen when covering his music: they’re less E Street and more Bethnal Green Road Band on these stripped down efforts, with guitar, ukulele and minimal percussion accompanying Mr Tattersall’s vocals. I wasn’t sure about the three songs taken from Born In The USA ᾢ ‘My Hometown’ in particular doesn’t cross the Atlantic well - but Tattersall brings out the everyman feel of ‘Tougher Than The Rest’ and ’Secret Garden’ while ‘Ponyboy’ starts like a nursery rhyme but gives him a chance to play blues guitar, which, as you'd imagine, he does flawlessly. The split single’s worth buying anyway but the CD-R giveaway from the prolific Pictures makes it unmissable.

Various Artists - Introducing Townes Van Zandt Via The Great Unknown

Townes Van Zandt is a name bandied about as an artist you surely must have heard about?
John Townes Van Zandt, March 7, 1944 - January 1, 1997, was a singer-songwriter and poet. He was too fond of drink and drugs and suffered from manic depression. He usually appeared at small venues, but you get the impression that today he could fill the Albert Hall. He never had a hit himself, though Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard scored a Billboard country No.1 with his ‘Pancho And Lefty’.
This compilation brings us 19 of his compositions covered by contemporary musicians from Australia, Canada, Ireland, Sweden, the UK and US. Represented are solo and band settings, from stark to sophisticated. Stephen Duffy & The Lilac Time deliver ‘Pancho And Lefty’, Kevin Tihista treats us to ‘Still Looking For You’, while Chris Mills adds the dark edge to ‘Tecumseh Valley’. The Be Good Tanyas perform ‘Waiting Around To Die’, which has appeared on the American TV drama series ‘Breaking Bad’. More unusual presentations include Telafonica’s ‘St John The Gambler’ and Jad Fair’s ’Turnstyled, Junkpiled’.
This album works on two different levels, as an introduction to the work of a great songwriter and as a sampler of some splendid modern performers.

Colabora su hermano en buena parte de los temasHeather Woods Broderick - From The Ground

http://www.mediafire.com/?tywdzaomgjy@3w1x5u70:
Heather tiptoes into the room on the back of a delicate piano motif (like a slowed down version of Frank Mills’ ‘79 classic, “Music Box Dancer”) on “Something Other Than,” the opening track on this Oregon composer’s debut. Broderick’s tentative, little girl vocals flutter across “Cottonwood Bay” to the accompaniment of her weeping cello and a soft acoustic guitar riff reminiscent of Paul Simon’s “Homeward Bound.” The title track is a delicate waltz that floats along on a bed of strings and her brother Peter pops in occasionally to offer backing vocal, bass, drum and assorted string assistance.
You could knock many of Broderick’s arrangements over with a feather, making these lullabies perfect bedtime tunes for the little ones, but there’s also a romantic, wistful air throughout that will warm the hearts and souls of lovers everywhere. Broderick also interrupts her more traditionally structured ballads for several snorecore instrumentals (“For Misty,” “Left”) that envelop the listener in her angelic wordless vocals and piano and cello duets.
Elsewhere, “Wounded Bird” is a heavy-hearted weeper evoking the self-reflective work of Marissa Nadler and Sharron Kraus, and “Turned” is as soft as cotton, sounding like Mary Lou Lord covering Red House Painters. An exquisite debut full of doe-eyed wonder, youthful enthusiasm, and contemplative moods summoned by an exotically irresistible combination of piano, glockenspiel, Celeste, mandolin, and flutes. Perfect late-night autumnal fare.
