Chef Chris’ musical journey began in Detroit back in the early nineties; his talent has taken him many places and has allowed him to jam with some great musicians. His music is BLUES delivered with a raw soul power that is searing, intense and sinister. He is a large-and-in-charge front man who’s strong and rough singing coupled with his raw thick and nasty harp work help create this larger than life performer.
In 2002 Chef Chris and his band won the prestigious International Blues Challenge in Memphis TN., and were named “The Best Unsigned Blues Band in the World.” Other accolades include winning the Detroit Battle of the Blues Bands, Named by Billboard magazine & Discmakers as a top 10 independent artist. (2003) Nominated for several Detroit Music Awards.
The MUSIC has been described as swampy, eerie, and quirky it's unique and fresh, yet retains the feel of yesteryears best. The Chefs genius is story telling many of his originals are based on true life events like “You’re going to jail and your car is too” (the title says it all) or “Crawfish Gumbo” a swampy cajun groove about the Herculean task of first preparing, and later eating Gumbo with his women!
Chef Chris’ motto is “specializing in carefully contrived spontaneity”. That should give you a good feel for what he’s all about. Doesn’t take himself too seriously, but definitely plays some serious heavy blues. This is some good stuff. Have ‘em do his thing live in your room and witness the full effect!"Chef Chris and The Rumpshakers" are the perfect example of the quality and depth of metro area blues bands. Yes, they do rearranged homage numbers to the storied greats like "Bo Diddley", "Sonny Boy Williamson", and others. But more than half their repertoire is original gutsy gritty metro area based blues. These cleverly written tales are neatly crafted and center around such familiar names as Woodward, Michigan Ave., and Hamtramck. There are woeful rants of times in the auto shops and the brothels and dives that surround them. How much of these stories are real or fabricated is a listeners decision. They certainly sound compelling and are perfect for "rumpshaking".
The band is fronted and led by its namesake and founder, "Chef Chris Sirvinskis". He is a very big man with matching appetites for food, drink, women, and especially "the blues". Nobody is more original in performance. His deep powerful vocals are matched with his enormous talent on harp. He's equally comfortable playin’ between a tempting taste or torrid tempo. The bottom of the band has newly installed Jeremy Grenier on bass and Jack Schneider on drums. No flash or splash here, just strong solid rooted rhythm that is the bands backbone. The wailing and sailing is supplied by lead guitarist Dylan Dunbar. Now here is a real specimen. He can go from raging and raw to remote and refined, from soaring and screaming to soft and subtle, with a twist of the wrist. He gives his Gibson a complete workout every night. His style could be called "knarly". It is simply invigorating to watch and listen to these men play.

Un secundario de lujo, con una discografía subterranea a veces magistral…. Lo descubrí en el 95 con "Heave´s gate" (de este disco hice en su día una reseña, no sé si en Ruta 66 o Spiral) y aún sigue sacando buenos discos.... A ver como es este.... Se llama Simon Joyner....
