Maps - a.k.a. James Chapman - has announced details of the release of a new album, Turning The Mind, released on Mute on October 20th, 2009.
Turning The Mind, recorded with Tim Holmes (Death in Vegas) at the Contino Rooms in London, is Maps’ second album and follows the Barclaycard Mercury Prize shortlisted debut We Can Create (2007).
Talking about the album, James Chapman explains, “Turning The Mind is essentially an album which explores themes related to the human mind and the way certain stimuli, particularly chemical, can affect the mind in different ways.
A recurring theme throughout the album is that of the 'journey of extremes'. An example of this could be from 'depression' to 'euphoria' (or 'abyss' to 'bliss', if you like).
The title comes from the cognitive therapy practice of 'Mindfulness' which I came across a few years ago, taught by Professor Marsha M. Linehan. It is a practice which, in simple terms, takes negative thoughts and turns them towards positive ones by accepting reality as it is, however bad it may be.
The tracks for this album never seemed to stop flowing from the day I began working on them, it is a true statement of Maps' music at this precise moment.”
Let Go The Fear, a one-off collaboration with renowned Berlin based producer / DJ Oliver Huntemann and Tim Holmes received a limited download only release in May and was described by The Guardian (UK) as “the kind of music that makes you want to indulge in very urgent dancing.” Watch it here.
Maps has recently debuted their new stripped down electronic line-up at the UK’s Great Escape and Stag & Dagger festivals and has announced a number of dates for the summer, including a support slot on the forthcoming M83 UK tour.

Se que esto puede sentar como un patada en el culo, pero ya circula por la red el nuevo ataque a la música perpetrado por Scarlett Johansson. No se como suena ni lo quiero saber, pero lo dejo para todo aquel interesado en tenerle poco cariño a sus oídos.

Almenos en el cine lo entiendo porqué está tremenda y tal y sabemos como está el percal. Pero en la música…? Si no se la puede ver mientras canta en mute, no tiene sentido.

Para mi la Scarlett (en el cine) es más como un bollito de leche y no "pescado hervido". Algo insípida si, pero al menos un poco calórico.
Creo que este el el bueno y no el que se puso hace unas semanas.

We’re thrilled to announce the addition of Los Angeles quartet Division Day to our roster of artists. Division Day will see the release of their much-anticipated sophomore full-length, Visitation, on August 18. The album was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen (NIN/Beck/Gnarls Barkley) and mixed by Todd Burke (Ben Harper/The Rumble Strips/Idlewild). The follow up to 2007’s Beartrap Island, Visitation finds the band steering confidently into darker territory, marrying synthetic and organic textures in songs about death, transformation, and the devil.
Formed while still in school, the band self-released Beartrap Island in 2006. Division Day took to the road, touring the west coast relentlessly, making a splash at CMJ, where they caught the ears of The New York Times, leading to a commercial release the following year. Response to the record was tremendous, garnering excellent reviews, and nationwide tours. Some excellent words about Beartrap Island:
