Epic45 - In All The Empty Houses Mini Album

It comes as no surprise to find that Epic45 grew up - and still reside - in a small rural village in the heartland of the English Midlands. Based around the nucleus of 27-year-old school friends Ben Holton and Rob Glover, Epic45 have had a varied and fluid line-up since their debut in 1999, releasing a series of highly acclaimed EPs and albums for labels such as Bearos, Awkward Silence and Where Are My Records. The band has also received radio airplay from the late John Peel, Steve Lamacq and Verity Sharp. Inspired by their surroundings, blissful childhood summers and mysterious/inspiring walks, the duo have been making music for more than a decade.

Epic45's last full-length album, 2007's “May Your Heart Be The Map” cemented the band's reputation as purveyors of gorgeous, hazy, atmospheric pop. Described by Word Magazine as “The best English summer album ever”, it displayed Epic45's masterful blending of acoustic and electronic instruments, their subtle use of field recordings to evoke different moods and memories, and glorious, understated vocal harmonies.

Much has happened in the months since. “In All The Empty Houses” is a diary of this time. It is, in every sense, a very personal record; one that captures innocence, loss, yearning, resignation… and hope. It is an album of ghosts - the ghosts of past times, the ghosts of lost relationships, the ghosts of what might have been and the ghosts of what never was... ghosts on tape.

If you're looking for easy musical references, you might be able to hear the ghosts of Sarah Records, Disco Inferno, Slowdive and New Order. But to rely on such comparisons would be a considerable disservice. The sounds are unmistakably those of Epic45, the hushed vocals, chiming guitars, warm electronics, the beautiful turn of phrase, the heartbreaking melodies. “In All The Empty Houses” has a rich emotional depth, an honesty and an integrity all too seldom found. It is, simply, a stunning record.

“In All The Empty Houses” also features contributions from Simon Scott (Slowdive / Televise) on drums as well as new Epic45 member Paul Manasseh (who records as PManasseh) on keyboards.

Aprovechando un viaje a Bilbao me hice con el disco de Mursego, cuando llegué a casa se lo puse a un amigo y me dijo que era un poco turbador, supongo que eso era buena señal.
Mursego es Maite Arroitajauregi, de Eibar y se ha autoeditado este EP. Utiliza numerosos instrumentos (en last.fm pone que cello, pedal loop, ukelele, maracas, platillos y flauta de émbolo) y numerosos idiomas también: francés, portugués, vasco, inglés…
Tal vez a veces sea turbador como decía mi amigo, otras veces es oscuro, un tanto onírico...creo que el murciélago, animal que de una u otra forma revolotea sobre este disco, es una buena manera de definir Bat.
Además tiene dos versiones, una de PJ Harvey y otra muy especial de Moldy Peaches, donde incluye algún fragmento de Manos de Topo.

To celebrate C93's appearance at the Leipzig Wave Gotik Treffen festival, Coptic Cat have created a MONOPHONIC version of the album. The album comes in a jewel-case, has a full-colour 20 page booklet with all the text and fantastic—and utterly different—photos of all the band. All the tracks have been renamed for this album, and are printed, as is the text on the cover of the album, in a German Black Letter Gothic font. To our ears the album sounds very different in mono; more savage, harder, more overwhelming.

Chris Corsano - Another Dull Dawn [Ultra Eczema, 2009]

Static synaptic splat and hairy flexes of Corsano's considerable hippocampus powers. Percussion pushed to it's limits: by rumbling things set on snares, bows, & the scraping of some alien titanium. At times, the whole thing floats so thickly that it nearly forms into a doppleganger of Paul Flaherty. You also get a few rolls meant to kick in Elvin Jones' paunch, and some beastly sound effects of sea captains being warned by lighthouse bells, or planes landing next to your head. Helluva slab, will probably last all of ten seconds.

Vaya cambio. Han puesto un adelanto del disco debut: "Sunrise Orchestra", que saldrá en Septiembre de 2009 (¿autoeditado?). Y suena mucho más elegante, definido y cuidado. Más rockero y soul-psicodélico quizás pero con poso.

The Dirty Pink Ladies lo creamos una fria tarde de Noviembre del 2005 con el unico proposito de hacer buenas canciones y pasar buenos ratos.

Un año despues publicamos nuestro primer EP titulado "The Return to the Action", un disco de 5 canciones en el que predominaba el Rock pero intentandole dar un toque de Soul y de Garaje. La acogida fue bastante buena y las criticas de la prensa eran realmente gratificantes.

Durante este 2007 tuvimos la suerte de poder compartir escenario con bandas como the Sewergrooves, Turbonegro, Discipulos de Dionisos... y muchas bandas mas: pero sobretodo de hacer un monton de amigos( y algun que otro enemigo).

Ahora nos encontramos en un proceso de composicion para entrar al estudio hacia Enero del 2008,y esperamos hacer un disco que pueda transmitir todo lo que sentimos nosotros cuando tocamos en el local. 

Gracias a tod@s l@s amig@s,novi@s,familia y bandas con las que hemos pasado buenos momentos,nos vemos en la carretera!

No sé que entenderás por spam, pero a mí no me pagan por hacer esto ni conozco al grupo personalmente.

Me gusta dar a conocer grupos o discos que creo que merecen la pena y que generalmente no son muy conocidos.

Este disco que encima es debut como mucho se lo autoeditarán o saldrá en un pequeño sello. Y muchos ni os habréis enterado de que exista…

Con esto no digo que vaya a ser una maravilla pero por el adelanto de temas que han puesto me ha gustado y me parece bien interesante.

Y perdonad si os molesta o si preferís que ponga menos morralla y textos promocionales y vaya más al grano. Pues lo hago para otra vez. A mí aparte de dar mi opinión me gusta poner un poco de la bio del grupo y alguna imagen... Más en este caso que no hay casi referencias de ellos por Internet...

Sometimes a record can be simply overwhelming. Not necessarily a bad thing but when you have to sit down and write about a record being overwhelmed does not facilitate a quick post. Those nice people at Riot Season sent me this at the same time as the excellent Black Boned Angel’s Verdum, but it’s taken me another week to come to terms with this record and try to write something sensible about it. If you have already heard Shit and Shine’s Cherry then you know a little of what you are in for, but I’ll warn you at the outset 229 2299 Girls Aginst Shit is a much more difficult record.Shit and Shine 2009 are still the ugly, violent, sociopathic stepchild of noise-rock, but they may have gone off their meds.
As per usual, Shit and Shine on record are a very different beast to their live incarnation. The production never allows the songs to find their way out of a morose of fuzz and mud yet somehow it works well. The whole thing kicks of with the epic, stonking, rock-pig groove of the first track, have you really thought about your presentation, which has to be the best rock and roll song in the world this minute. I kid you fucking not. USA/MEXICO is what Harry Pussy would have sounded like had they been a black metal band with a Ween fixation. Yep that good. Yes 910! could be spacerock if it somehow had a scab that was being picked at. There’s an industrial, Wolf Eyes vibe about Pissing on a Shed and a left field take on early 1990’s hardcore on Robert’s Church Problem. How a record this full-on doesn’t take itself so seriously shows just how much fun noise-rock can be but I had to listen to two days worth of Stars of the Lid in a an attempt to make ammends with my ears.
