Gold Panda – Half of Where You Live (Ghostly International / 2013)

Mellow house and ornate, shimmering techno from Gold Panda on his sophomore LP. Fans of Caribou and Four Tet will find much to love in the generously melodic, intricately constructed 4/4 grooves the London-based producer puts on display, embroidered with samples and imbued with an organic, everything-is-alright essence that seems to make sense with summer (supposedly) on the way. We run the gamut from the supple minimal of ‘Brazil’ and more jaggedly programmed house swing of ‘An English House’ through to the chiming, circadian ambient of ‘My Father In Hong Kong’ and downtempo sunset of ‘Reprise’, the mood always wistful but never less than optimistic.

Dalhous - An Ambassador for Laing (2013)
Dalhous deliver an engrossing debut for Blackest Ever Black. 'An Ambassador For Laing' is the Edinburgh-based duo, Marc Dall and Alex Ander's 2nd LP together - they've previously recorded one as Young Hunting - and continues to exchange their more melodramatic inclinations for richly filmic atmospheres and intricate, rhythm-driven and song-like arrangements hinting at a dreamy jazz noir and IDM-esque feel. Employing a rigorously refined palette of keys, harp, vibraphone, guitar, woodwind, strings and synthesizer, processed in layers of frictional harmony with heavily treated vocals, they've achieved a complex and tightly woven brace of instrumental songs where nothing is left to chance and everything is placed with purpose and precision. To us, the results recall everyone from Bola to Vertical Form's Corker/Conboy and even fellow Scots, Christ or BoC in their complexity and vision, augmenting traces of their instrument's original, tactile timbres in surreal headspace to create chimeric, wretched structures burning with psychedelic detail.

Este año, como viene siendo habitual ya, lo de las offs es un escandalo, uno se vuelve majara con tanta oferta, lo mejor es ir al Sonar y asi no te haces un lio.
Discazo el de Octo Octa por cierto, me ha encantado.

Se me olvidó poner por aquí la entrevista y cd mix de uno de los hombres del momento en la electrónica, yo soy muy fan.

Muy guay el de Octo Octa, muy bien los temas sin voz y, de entre los que tienen voz, mejor los que van en onda voces a lso The XX que los que se van a Ibiza. Como LP igual le falta un poco de cohesión.
Dejo el de Stellar Om Source, me flipa el trabajo de "producción" de Kassem Mosse (creo que al final sólo ha hecho la mezcla final y ha ayudado en la composición de algún tema), al que últimamente le he estado dando un revolcón de los buenos (buscad el cassette que ha sacado bajo el nombre de The Siege of Troy!). Bastante killer.
