That authoritative quote sets the stage for Grief Pedigree, the sophomore effort of emcee Ka, his first full length since 2008’s Iron Works. Hailing from the notorious neighborhood, Ka is an underground heavyweight from his early work with the original incarnation of the group Natural Elements in the early ‘90s to his collaborations with GZA, Roc Marciano and rapper Kev as the duo of Nightbreed, gaining a lot of respect for his strong lyrics and self-produced sounds. With Grief Pedigree, Ka is back to deliver more potent rhymes about the everyday struggle of life in Brooklyn, once again handling the bulk of the production and lyrics on this gutter record.

Jonwayne's new release is a rap cassette. That is to say, a hip-hop album called Cassette, released only on cassette, playable on a cassette player.
We're not posting the track list, and we're not releasing this on anything but a cassette. Side A is beats and raps by Jonwayne with Brainfeeder's Jeremiah Jae. Side B is beats by Jonwayne and no raps. Total running time: 23:39. Design by Jeff Jank.
The MC/producer/Low End Theory DJ offered no explanation as to why he wanted to release his album on cassette. Asked if he wished to expand on the idea he said, "not particularly."

Instead of going down the conventional route of a mixtape, Hodgy Beats and Left Brain went on a tear earlier this month, releasing seven tracks in as many days as part of their "MellowHype Week." With the freebies out of the way, the Odd Future duo avert their attention to their upcoming sophomore LP, Numbers, by revealing an updated tracklist. The only difference to the previous list is that the guest features are included. To probable approval, fellow Wolf Gang goons Frank Ocean, Earl Sweatshirt and Mike G will all appear. The album hits stores Oct. 9.

Like Odd Future, North Oakland rap duo Main Attrakionz gained fame by self-releasing dozens of internet mixtapes between 2010 and 2011 (including Blackberry Ku$h, Two Man Horror Film, Chandelier, Rappers Aint S**t Without a Producer, 808s & Dark Grapes, and 808s & Dark Grapes II.) The two rappers involved, MondreM.A.N and Squadda B., started recording together in junior high. By the time they were 19 year olds, they joined up with a talented collective of left-field Bay Area rap acts and electronic producers called Green Ova. There, Main Attrakionz carved out their own niche, rapping over hypnotic beats with chillwave atmospherics. Blogs quickly picked up on the self-proclaimed “best duo ever” and some even went so far as to hype them as pioneers of a new underground movement called “Cloud Rap.”
